Secure Supply of Raw Fiber Through Fair Trade Practices Arica is located near the world’s largest llama, alpaca and vicuña breeding regions, near the borders of Peru and Bolivia. A guanaco population of considerable size grazes in Magallanes, at the most southern tip of Chile. We secure our supply of raw fiber by purchasing directly from the producers, breaking a historical hold of intermediaries. Herders receive fair market prices which encourage them to produce fiber of higher worth. Meanwhile, the Government of Chile is active at sponsoring programs aimed at improving production, processing and other camelid related activities that involve producers.
